Entrepreneur Pathway
The Startup Refugees entrepreneurship Pathway funded by Yksityisyrittäjäin säätiö provides a structured, multi-stage training and support model designed for immigrant entrepreneurs at different stages of their journey. The program combines entrepreneurship education, practical business development, mentoring, and multilingual advisory services. Participants are supported from early-stage interest in entrepreneurship to business creation and growth, with tailored pathways for those exploring ideas and those ready to develop and launch a business. The model builds on earlier successful initiatives and has been further developed based on participant feedback and co-creation with experts, alumni, and partners.
The program brings together companies, public actors, and entrepreneurial support organizations in a collaborative model. Partners such as Business Helsinki, Business Oulu, and startup advisory services support outreach and participant referrals, while a wide network of companies and professionals contributes to mentoring, training, and practical insights. This cooperation strengthens connections between immigrant entrepreneurs and the Finnish business ecosystem while also supporting employers and stakeholders in engaging with diverse entrepreneurial talent.
Training is implemented through three stages: an introductory course supporting approximately 200 participants, an incubator phase supporting around 50 participants in developing and testing business ideas, and a growth phase supporting a smaller group of entrepreneurs in scaling their businesses. In addition, multilingual business advisory services reach approximately 800 individuals through around 1,000 guidance sessions. As a result, the program aims to support the creation of at least 30 new businesses and facilitate multiple funding and start-up grant applications.
