Business Program Success Stories
Abbas Shahsafi – NEOM Solution Oy | Business Consulting
When I arrived in Finland, I carried with me an ambitious vision – to build a thriving business that would not only support me but also contribute to the Finnish economy.
As the founder of NEOM Digital Product Agency, my goal was to bridge global opportunities and empower entrepreneurs. NEOM quickly grew into a business accelerator specializing in softlanding services, content creation, team and project management, product development, and market entry consulting.
However, success did not come without challenges. Navigating Finland’s taxation system proved to be one of the most complex challenges.
Even with my business experience, mistakes in financial reporting caused two unexpected penalty payments. A misunderstanding of the fiscal year made things worse, making profits look higher than they really were and showing me the importance of financial literacy. Determined to overcome these challenges, I turned to Startup Refugees for mentorship. With the guidance from Muntaser, Business Program Manager, Northern Finland and the program’s financial workshops, I gained clarity, developed better strategies, and steered NEOM toward stability.
My persistence paid off. Within a year, NEOM secured a €10,000 startup grant, received over 50 hours of advisory sessions, and generated over €100,000 in revenue, yielding a €40,000 profit, a 13.5x return on Finland’s investment in me.
Beyond financial success, I expanded NEOM into two joint ventures, including EagleSee Nordic Oy and NEOM Solution Oy, and prepared to launch an eSIM platform covering over 150 countries. I also set my sights on forging partnerships within the tourism and aviation industries, seeking to collaborate with Finnair and other key stakeholders.
Marketing and branding played a crucial role in NEOM’s growth.
Through a high-impact website, active participation in Helsinki’s business events, and strategic international partnerships, I positioned NEOM as a leader in digital solutions. I even proposed offering a free website and branding package for grant winners, giving back to the entrepreneurial ecosystem that supported me.
Reflecting on my journey, I realized that success is not about having unlimited resources but about being resourceful. I learned the importance of acting swiftly, leveraging mentorship, and adapting to challenges. In just 15 months, I had not only built a profitable business but had contributed back to the Finnish economy the same amount I initially brought when relocating.
This is just the beginning.
I now aim to scale my ventures, develop new innovations, and one day pitch at SLUSH, showcasing an idea that could transform industries.
As I continue to grow, I remain committed to paying it forward, helping other newcomers integrate into Finland’s thriving startup ecosystem.
With determination, adaptability, and the right support, I have proven that entrepreneurship is not just about making a living, it’s about creating lasting impact.
Thank you, Startup Refugees, for being part of my journey!
This is just the beginning!
